* Comment from Dr. Friedemann Freund: Since our major 2007 paper in ApJ (Astrophysical Journal) on the nature of the organics associated with dust in the interstellar medium (attached), I have not published any paper in the area of Origin of Life/Astrobiology. However, I had an invited presentation at this year's ACS (American Chemical Society) meeting in New Orleans, entitled "Assembly of Biochemically Relevant Proto-Molecules in the Dense Matrix of Minerals". In addition David Tenenbaum recently wrote a piece on our ongoing work on hydrogen in rocks on the Astrobio.net website (see Publications).

Most of my recent publications have been concerned with the spin-off of my NAI-related work, namely with the discovery that minerals, which acquire molecular H2 through a redox conversion of hydroxyl pairs, also acquire peroxy links, Si-OO-Si. This leads to a whole suite of previously unknown electrical properties of rocks, which are under intense study in relation with understanding electrical, electromagnetic and related signals that the Earth sends out prior to major earthquakes. I have several 2006-2008 papers to this topic (see Publications) and a book chapter, which is in print (not referenced).
