SETI Institute Principal Investigator
Astronomer Richard Freedman studies stars from the outside in, scrutinizing their atmospheres with the tools of spectroscopy. As a doctoral student at the University of California at Berkeley over thirty years ago, Freedman began his work modeling stellar atmospheres. In his ongoing research, he combines theory and observation to characterize the physical properties of brown dwarfs, cool stars, and giant planets beyond our solar system.
